Even though Africa may not be one of the top tourist destinations, it contains countless unexplored places that are definitely worth visiting. Cameroon is one of the hidden gems – its incredible natural environment, dynamic cities and soulful people create a unique and varied country. Cameroon is perfect for sightseeing – a large number of natural parks give you an opportunity to observe exotic animals, while good road conditions and perfect location in the very heart of the continent contribute to an enjoyable journey.
Waza National Park, situated about 300 km from Maroua – the capital of the Far North Region, is a great place to discover wildlife of Cameroon. Here you can see elephants, giraffes, lions, gazelles and hyenas in their natural habitat and explore the area on a guided car tour. Considered to be one of the most spectacular wildlife reserves of the country, Waza Cameroon might require more than one day to see it all as the park covers 170,000 acres.
Kribi, a beach resort and port, offers you a chance to relax and adore beautiful views of white sand and blue sea. You will be thrilled to taste exceptionally good fresh fish dishes in the nearby restaurants and be able tostay in one of the reasonably priced hotels of the area. What is more, only 8 km away you can find the Chutes de la Lobé waterfalls that fall directly into the sea, and try their famous dugout canoe rides.
Mefou National Park is not a reserve you expect it to be – it is a project run by volunteers who help endangered primates. In the park which functions as a rehabilitation centre for apes, you can see chimpanzees, gorillas and mandrills, as well as go on a tour with Mefou’s knowledgeable guides. During your visit, you will also explore the natural forest setting of Cameroon.
